Rebounder is Wishlist Worthy

We are always adding games to our wishlist, constantly digging through the crates looking for gems, or something fresh and we want to share those games with you. We’re going to talk about the game for a minute or two and then show you the trailer and let you decide.

The first game that we are going to talk about is going to be Rebounder. Rebounder is a precision platformer that was inspired by the look and feel of old comic book printing. At the core, Rebounder is a game about grabbing, bouncing, throwing and combos. The main gameplay mechanic is where you take an alien spore, throw it and then use its explosion to get farther in a move that was inspired from a speed running technique known as shell jumping in Mario games. Like most precision platformers, everything takes place within single screen puzzles. Should things go wrong, you’re attached to a belay that stylishly and near instantaneously brings you back to the start of the screen.

According to the developers, using the alien spore is like the parry mechanic from Cuphead. Precision platformers like Celeste were obviously a huge inspiration, but also Hotline Miami with the very tight controls, gameplay loop and weird vibe.

Rebounder takes place in the distant future where you clock in to pay down your debt by running lines across unknown alien planets. If the gameplay is good, precision platformers don’t need much story, but just like Celeste, a strong narrative can greatly elevate a game to legendary status. It’s too early to know, but the narrative seeds planted in Rebounder have the potential to grow into something much bigger.
