REPLACED Post Launch Interview

“You should find that way to establish an emotional connection with the player. I can prompt a clone of Spider-Man, but does it make me feel anything other than, oh it’s kind of like Spider-Man, but it’s shit ”

That’s Yura, the Founder of Sad Cat Studios and the visionary Game Director of their debut title “REPLACED” talking about the soul-less onslaught of vibe-coded AI games and why, at least for now, indie developers shouldn’t feel threatened by these advancements because humans want games made by humans. This was just a tip of the iceberg of our discussion.

In this episode of Post Launch Mortem, I was fortunate to sit down and talk with Yura for almost an hour to talk about what a seven year development process looks like and how REPLACED went from small indie game to an indie blockbuster. We discussed reaching one million wishlists, the challenges of developing a game through COVID and a war, if being on Game Pass Day One was worth it, whether revealing at E3 2021 was too early, the launch, what’s happened since and even what’s next for Sad Cat Studios.
