Silksong Release Date? The Only Logical Date Left in 2025

If Silksong releases in 2025, there is only one logical release date.

A few years back, we saw the writing on the wall and said that Silksong might not release in 2022. That video currently has almost two million views and unfortunately, we couldn’t have been more right. But it also didn’t release in 2023 or 2024. It’s now August 2025 and we still don’t have an official release date for Silksong this year either.

However, there have been five pretty big signs that this will actually be the year for Hollow Knight: Silksong. Looking at the back half of the year, there is only one logical release date for Silksong and it’s too good to pass up, but before we get to that, let’s discuss those five big signs, in chronological order, that strongly indicate Silksong will release in 2025

FIVE REASONS SILKSONG IS COMING IN 2025

NINTENDO SWITCH 2 DIRECT

One of the big surprises at the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct that took place in early 2025 was new footage of Hollow Knight Silksong. This was the first new footage that had been seen of Silksong for years and on top of the few seconds of new footage that displayed Hornet sliding down a hill, there was also a title that stated “Coming in 2025”

MUSEUM DEMO

At the Australian Center for Moving Image (ACMI) in Melbourne, Hollow Knight Silksong will be part of an exhibit happening in the fall titled "Game Worlds”. The exhibit will focus on the mediums ability to transport people from reality to other worlds, which was one of the strengths of Hollow Knight. The inclusion of Hollow Knight Silksong makes perfect sense because Team Cherry is from Melbourne and Hollow Knight Silksong is one of the most anticipated games of recent memory. What’s more, the exhibit will also feature a playable demo of Silksong.

XBOX ROG ALLY X

During the Summer Game Fest timeframe, the Xbox Rog Ally x was announced and it was pretty heavily focused around Silksong. Every snippet of gameplay shown on the device was Hollow Knight: Silksong. The Xbox Ally doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s currently listed as holiday 2025 with Silksong still being a Day One Game Pass title.

MARKETING

Matthew Griffin, who is the Head of Marketing for Team Cherry (and Mongoose Rodeo, who are making Crowsworn) did say that Hollow Knight Silksong will release before the holidays. This was in response to the release date of Silksong being tied to the Xbox Rog Ally X, which it isn't, both items just happen to be releasing Holiday 2025.

Team Cherry or anyone that represents the studio have been very quiet during development, especially when it comes to a release date. Matthew is highly aware of how passionate the community is and how his words will be examined with a microscope. I don’t think he would put himself in a position like this if he didnt have the utmost confidence that Silksong will release Holiday 2025.

GAMESCOM DEMO

The most recent indicator that we are barreling towards a Hollow Knight Silksong release in 2025 is because Xbox have just announced their Gamescom schedule, which includes a brand new playable demo of Silksong. Considering that it says brand new, it can be assumed that it won’t be the same Nintendo Treehouse demo that we saw years ago. In addition to that, it takes time to create a demo. considering how small Team Cherry is and how heads down they have been on development, this indicates that they have wrapped production.

The Only Logical Release Date for Silksong

At this point, Silksong has ascended to legendary status, especially for an indie game. With this kind of hype surrounding Team Cherry and their Hollow Knight sequel, there is only one possible release date and it’s December 11, 2025. That is the night of The Game Awards 2025 and I fully expect a brand new trailer and a shadow drop release at Geoff Keighly’s show that night.

Back in 2018, Hades, which is arguably one of the biggest indies did the exact same thing and has gone on to enjoy immense levels of success. It became available in Early Access exclusively on Epic. In 2024, The Game Awards had over 154 million viewers and it’s hard to pass up that kind of publicity. Geoff Keighly would love to have a game of that status release at The Game Awards and Team Cherry would love to have that many eyes on Silksong. This would be mutually beneficial and would likely be inexpensive for Team Cherry who are a small company who have boot strapped their way this far and generated insane levels of hype with next to zero marketing. At this point it would be a win win for both Team Cherry and The Game Awards.

The only reason this might not possibly happen is because of the complications with the kickstarter backers, but this only complicates the matter and doesn’t make it impossible.
