Ten Ways Wheel World Is A Road Rash Spiritual Successor
Road Rash was an epic combat motorbike racer that began in the early 90’s. Although, there were numerous interactions across different consoles in the 90’s, the height of the series was the first three games across multiple Sega systems. Although there have been a few attempts, none ever captured the magic.
What I wasn’t expecting was for Wheel World to fill the void because it harnesses the essence Instead of trying to duplicate the exact formula.
Here are the top ten ways that Wheel World is the best spiritual successor to Road Rash.
1
The most obvious is that Road Rash and Wheel World feature fast paced racing on two wheels.
2
The races in both of the games only take 2-3 minutes
3
Tongue in cheek humour. While Road Rash featured funny animated movies at the end, Wheel World adds some funny dialogue with the leader of each clan prior to the race.
4
Going very fast in both games can lead to epic wipeouts and both games feature traffic, which can ruin a perfectly good race.
5
Both games feature high tempo music. Road Rash featured something closer to Rock and Roll, while Wheel World features indie electronic pop.
6
In both games, you always start each race in last place and the hardest park is breaking away from the crowd.
7
Earn currency from races. In Road Rash you earned cold, hard cash. In Wheel World, you earn rep and components to upgrade your bike, which are as good as cash.
8
Both games feature a simple, but addictive gameplay loop of racing and upgrading. In Road Rash, you had the option to visit the bike shop and purchase dozens of bikes. In Wheel World, the combination of bikes available would likely be in the tens of thousands with all the different combination of components.
9
You can get some series air in both games and going off the track drastically slows you down
10
There are a variety of locations for races. In Road Rash, you went from places like Alaska and Hawaii. In Wheel World you go from farms to wineries to cities.
