Monster Hunter Stories 3 Mini Review
After finally dipping my toe in the last few mainline Monster Hunters, it’s easy why people love this series. It’s a fantastical world that you want to spend time in filled with planning hunts, tracking monsters and epic monster battles. Unfortunately, the gameplay loop just doesn’t resonate with me….yet.
I do however love turn based RPGS which is why I was curious about Monster Hunter Stories 3. After over 20 hours, it’s safe to say that it’s a fantastical RPG full of gameplay depth, stunning cinematic cutscenes, captivating story line, and of course, all the monster hatching, battling, and riding anyone could ask for. Best of all, it doesn’t require any knowledge of Monster Hunter or The two previous spin offs, however fans of the series are likely to find more value.
The highlight of Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflections is the rock, paper, scissors combat gameplay that each monster encounter provides, as you always need to be prepared by studying your monsterpedia and adapting your strategies during combat as the enemy strategy evolves during battle. With the help of your monsties, and your three weapons classes you will need to decide between power, speed and technical attacks. Focusing on opponent weakness and trying to level up your monstie kinship gauge for battle changing attacks was satisfying.
Invasive monsters are threatening the monster ecosystem and As a rangers, your job is to protect the monsters by defeating these invasive creatures, collecting monstie eggs just to Pokemon, hatching, and channeling the DNA for legendary skills. After this, you can select certain monsters to release back into the wild to help restore habitats, which will naturally produce epic monstie eggs. Not only captain of the rangers, Leo is also royalty, as the prince of azure and finds himself at the forefront war between neighbouring counties Azuria and Vermeil.
Being fully transparent, we are a smaller outlet and it will take a while before we can roll credits as the average experience of Monster Hunter Stories 3 is around 100 hours. However, after 20 hours, the experience has been fantastic and it’s definitely a game that deserves to be seen through til the end.
Whether or not you have experience with the franchise, Monster Hunter Stoies 3 is a fantastic, turn based RPG
