Onimusha Way of The Sword Review
Did Onimusha sell its soul in 2026? After a two decade hiatus, the big question was if the series lost its way and became another generic open-world action game or even worse, just another uninspired soulslike?
Way of The Sword retains its unique identity by embracing the series pillars and revitalizes Onimusha for a brand new generation. The tone remains, as well as the linearity, the fast paced combat, which has been modernized making it the highlight of the experience and epic bosses. Unfortunately, pacing issues including too many cutscenes, camera frustrations and a few other minor gripes keep Onimusha from greatness.
However, what Capcom have done with Onimusha: Way of The Sword is bring back one of their iconic franchises, make it relevant once again and apply the level of quality that they have become known for over the past decade. If you played the originals, there is enough here to warm the cockles of your heart and make you feel nostalgic, but if you never did, Onimusha sails alone in a sea of action imitators by embracing series roots.
