Silent Hill Townfall Review
Kojima gave us a taste of Silent Hill in first person with PT in 2014 and the result remains one of the scariest games ever created. Over a decade later, we can finally experience the first full length, full budget Silent Hill from the first person perspective. Although Townfall fails to match PT in terms of terror, it was just a snippet, whereas Townfall is a full 15 hour experience that sustains tension and quality throughout including one of the best puzzle sequences i’ve ever played.
There is too much filler near the end, which lessened the overall impact, the penultimate event feels out of place, and a there are few other minor concerns. Nonetheless, Silent Hill: Townfall still inserts itself amongst the best of the franchise by executing on the staples that have taken the series this far, juxtaposing it with plenty of fresh ideas by harnessing the strengths of indie studio Screen Burn and their affinity for analog technology. Silent Hill Townfall is fresh, familiar and one of the best original entries within the series in decades.
